Blackland Prairie District
Consists of units from public, private, and parochial schools located within our geographic boundaries - north of Northwest Highway, west of US Highway 75, north to Addison/Carrollton and east of I-35 (not including Richardson). We are a diverse group of scouters and welcome you!
The District hosts several events throughout the year:
Cub-A-Palooza - our Family Fun Day at Camp Wisdom usually held in early October for cub scouts and their families. Event is staffed by Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops, Order of the Arrow, and adult volunteers. Families new to scouting attend this fun day with optional overnight camping. Typically, Saturday lunch is included along with themed activities and advancements. Nightime carnival is not to be missed!
Webelos-on-the-Water – An event to help Webelos acquire skills and requirements for Webelos rank and Arrow of Light. Staffed by Boy Scout Troops or patrols, this campout is held in November at a Circle Ten camp. Attended by Dens or individuals, Webelos and their parents leave with a better understanding of what Boy Scouting is all about.
Camporee - only for Boy Scouts, this event is held each spring to test their skills, character, and leadership. Run and staffed by the District's Order of the Arrow Makade Aki Chapter and adult volunteers, Boy Scout patrols compete to win the District’s Eagle trophy and bragging rights for the next year. After a full day of competitive themed events, all participants share in the community dinner followed by the OA’s mystical “calling out” ceremony around a blazing campfire. Sunday morning after the Scouts Own service, the coveted Eagle troaphy is awarded to the winning Patrol.
Annual District Dinner - Each January, we recognize those individuals who continue to make scouting possible within our District at our annual awards banquet. Please be sure and recongize your volunteers from Den Leaders to Committee Chair's.
Twilight Day Camp - for cub scouts entering the 1st grade through 5th, is held each June at Valley View Park centrally located in our District. We are revamping the 'traditional' day camp to a weekender camp to accomodate our families' busy schedules.
Finally, our Order of the Arrow Chapter, Makade Aki, is growing and currently is working on their 'canoe' project. Past and present Arrowmen are invited to attend the chapter meetings the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Please check our calendar for time and place.
